Colin MacRae will not be returning to Below Deck Sailing Yacht. Fans express regret over his departure
Colin MacRae has been an icon on Below Deck Sailing Yacht for multiple seasons. The engineer has often been the voice of reason to many of his costars. Whether he was the one staying out of the drama or making sure his friend, Gary King, came back in one piece from the bar. However, as Bravo announced the new season, fans were quick to notice that Colin was no longer a main cast member.
Colin MacRae was the funny guy on the yacht
Fans already knew that Colin wasn’t thinking of returning to Below Deck Sailing Yacht. He hinted during the Season 4 reunion that he was upset with how his relationship with Daisy Kelliher played out and the love triangle he found himself in. But before Colin was caught up in heartbreak, he was considered the funny bone of the Parsifal III. Through multiple seasons, he and Gary would bust each other’s chops. The combination of Gary and Colin just worked so well together, like peanut butter and jelly.
I would go as far as to say they were one of the most perfect on-screen Bravo couples. Colin was excellent at his job and had a great sense of humor. Colin’s ability to lighten anyone’s mood was helpful, especially when you live in such tight quarters. What worries me as a fan of Season 5 is that, without Colin, Gary will still be as entertaining. I think they need each other to make the magic happen. Sadly, I think it will be very hard to find someone with such comedic timing as Colin.
Colin MacRae is a true sailor
To be an engineer on a yacht, the Parsifal III, you have to know what you’re doing. Colin’s passion shined through during multiple episodes. Colin proved he was the real stud of the sea during Season 4, where he single-handedly had to fix the ship’s engine. The crew’s entire yachting season was almost canceled after Colin noticed the engine had been flooded with salty seawater. At the time, the technicians told the captain it would take 15 days to get the new parts in. However, Colin came to the rescue even though he didn’t have a rebuilding kit by his side.
In a cheeky move, Colin revealed he had some past experience with “salvaging engines.” No one really had any hope on the ship, but Colin kept working on it for days. It is probably also helpful that Colin helped rebuild a ship from a 2018 hurricane. Fans watched as Colin removed the injectors and put in diesel, only to suck it all out later. Somehow, miracle of miracles, it worked, and Colin was left as our worthy hero. Even though it was a tedious task, he saved the charter season and their tip money.
Colin MacRae always came across as genuine
Say what you want about the reality TV star, but Colin was a stand-up guy in my book. When he first joined Below Deck Sailing Yacht, he was in a serious relationship. And not on one crew night out did he ever break his promise to be a good boyfriend. Colin often showed his character as he would phone home and check-in. The moment that I recall most was when his beloved dog passed away. He was heartbroken, and fans could tell he had a real love for his animal.
Even when he tried to date Daisy during Season 4, Colin was forever the gentleman. Cameras would often catch Colin trying to comfort Daisy after a hard day’s work and speak kind words to her. Not having Colin on Season 5 is a real bummer. I now sit here questioning who will be the show’s moral compass. Hopefully, the rest of the cast can pick up the slack, but I hope Colin knows he will be missed.
