The overarching theme continues

Loughlin is among the familiar faces in the guest star roster. Blue Bloodslast appeared in 2016. When viewers first met the character in the Season 7 premiere, Grace was already a widow. And, motivated by this loss, she begs Frank not to let her son Louis (David Castro) join the force. Frank sympathizes with Grace’s fear of losing her son, but he rejects her request. He then responds angrily, and they’re on bad terms. Interestingly, now Frank has something to ask Grace.

As for Patten, the Tony Award-winning actress for her role in the Broadway musical Little Sawtooth Tablet has a much longer history on the CBS series, with a total of more than a dozen appearances over six seasons. Patten’s character, Officer Witten, first appeared in Season 8 and was last seen in Season 13.

The episode, written by Nicole Abraham and Jack Chapchak and directed by Ralph Hemecker, seems to have a common thread. Blue Bloods explored how recurring and guest characters are brought in to hold a mirror up to the central Reagan family and confront them when necessary. The decision for Grace and Rachel, who may have broken some rules to help someone in need, may not be an easy one, and it could put Frank and Eddie in a bad light. But it is necessary.
