Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 introduced a new crew, among them being Emma Crouch, who joined the Parsifal III as a deckhand, but Emma’s skills have been pointed into question, leaving many wondering if she’s a producer plant. Emma is a seasoned yachting expert and has learned the ropes working as a deckhand in different deckhand roles. Despite the London native bringing her energy and enthusiasm into her role, she left First Officer Gary King and Captain Glenn Shephard unhappy. Gary expressed his frustrations with Emma, noting she seems inexperienced.
In Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5, episode 3, Gary freaked out when he found Emma not paying attention to the tender banging against their luxurious yacht. Emma was deeply immersed in her phone, and the noise only caught her attention later. Emma hadn’t tied the tender properly, so it was slipping away. Although Gary showed Emma how to ensure the tie never came off again, the Below Deck Sailing Yacht star has much to learn, and her incompetence could have repercussions later. It is starting to look like Emma didn’t join Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 for the right reasons.
Emma Can’t Do Her Job Properly

It’s obvious Emma is having a hard time fitting in with the rest of the crew members. Emma didn’t seem to have the ability to do deck work. Gary noted Emma had no “motivation or drive.” In another incident, Gary had a problem with Emma during docking when she couldn’t tie her line. He got impatient with her and advised her to use all her body weight so she’d make the line tight (via Bravo).
“Just pull it as tight as possible. Put your whole body weight on it.”
Later in a confessional, Gary said Emma seemed to not care about her job:
“This is the first thing you learn working on boats and she’s worked on baots for years…Does she not care? Does she not know?”
However, looking at Emma’s records, it’s safe to say the Below Deck Sailing Yacht is experienced in the field but chose not to perform her duties well. Over time, it has become hard for the Below Deck Sailing Yacht cast member to get assistance while working since she takes it like a dig at her skills even when it’s not. She is unwilling to learn, and instead of taking every opportunity as a chance to grow, Emma looks at it like an insult and whines about it for a while.
Emma Offers Some Comedic Relief

Since the Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 debuted, Emma has brought forth a lighthearted comic vibe to the show. She has found some sense of humor even when chaotic situations happen onboard, thus adding a refreshing and authentic element to Below Deck Sailing Yacht. Therefore, she quickly became a fun-loving member of the Parsifal III. Her good spirits could help her crew members get through their difficult days. Recently, she admitted to being passive-aggressive towards fellow deckhand Keith Allen.
Some of the commentaries she had made towards him could have been a way of expressing her frustrations. However, it could have also been the reason she made some sarcastic commentaries, where her dry humor and quick comebacks spiced up things but might have been offensive to others. The fact that Emma presented this personality but still has a hard time working or interacting with some of the cast members has proved that she knows when to play the part for entertainment purposes.
