In a preview for Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5, Episode 3, a tender starts floating away in front of guests’ eyes.
Although we’re only a couple of episodes into Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5, a lot of boat-related drama has already occurred. First, the tender crashed … and now it’s potentially floating away.
In a preview for Season 5, Episode 3, which is set to air October 21, a charter guest has to point out that something seems to be happening in the water. While deckhand Emma Crouch enjoys a cigarette and phone break, that pesky tender keeps hitting the yacht before ultimately slipping away.
“How did you tie the bow line on?” asks her coworker, Gary King, after noticing what’s happening in the water. “Sorry. I didn’t do it properly. I didn’t do it tight enough,” she answers.
Luckily, the stern line was tied on to the tender — but that didn’t stop the charter guest from asking, “Are you guys losing the boat? What’s going on here?”
In a confessional, Gary explains the importance of properly tying up the tender.
“You can’t leave the tender banging into the boat,” he says after pointing out scratches. “It’s gonna make noise for the guests, and worst of all, it looks sh-t.”
The remedy? Tie the knot properly, of course. Good thing there’s always a next time.

It really is one thing after another, as far as boat problems are concerned — but that’s just the way it goes in the world of Below Deck. During Episode 2, Gary was the one who caused an issue when he crashed the tender while bringing a dance instructor back to the shores of Ibiza.
Naturally, Captain Glenn Shephard was not happy with the situation. While he was of course thrilled that the boat didn’t leak or sink — and that no one had gotten hurt — he was worried about the engine flooding after the fact.
In a confessional, he shared exactly how costly the mistake could be.
“If the tender’s got a hole in it, it won’t sink because it’s an inflatable tender, but it could submerge that engine and then we’re buying a new one. And that tender is about 180,000 Euros,” he said.
