‘Sullivan’s Crossing’ Stars Chad Michael Murray and Scott Patterson Get Real About Reuniting 20 Years After ‘Gilmore Girls’
Chad Michael Murray may be best known for his role on One Tree Hill, but as any Gilmore Girls fan worth their salt will tell you, he also played Chilton bad boy Tristan Dugray in an 11-episode arc on the beloved show. Now, he’s starring in The CW’s Sullivan’s Crossing alongside GG‘s own Scott Patterson, a.k.a. Luke Danes. So, what was their reunion like?
“I’ve seen Scott a handful of times over the last 20-something years and it’s funny because I always remember when I was a young actor coming in—I was like 18, 19—and I remember seeing him on set and he just gave me those attaboys that you need,” Murray recalled in a recent interview with Parade (the Sullivan’s Crossing cast was cleared by SAG-AFTRA to do publicity for the upcoming season).
“You know, you’re a young actor, you’re walking in, you don’t know what you’re doing. You’re like, ‘Oh, I hope they don’t figure out that I’m a total phony.’ [And Scott said], ‘You got this. Come on man, just go crush it. You’re going to knock it out of the park.’ And you need that support from an older statesman.”
Although the two didn’t share any scenes in the series (nor did they act together in the 2015 independent movie Other People’s Children, in which they both appeared as well), they each appreciate the full-circle crossing of their professional paths.
“It’s comforting when you get to go to work with actors that you know and you’ve got history with because you know what you’re getting into,” Murray says.
For his part, Patterson tells Parade, “[Chad] is a fun, easy, breezy, smart, talented guy. He’s great with people. He’s great in front of the camera. He’s a great scene partner. Love the guy.”
That said, he points out, “If you have any level of hair insecurity, don’t go around him. Best head of hair I’ve ever seen.” Murray’s fans, of course, would agree.
Sullivan’s Crossing airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
